Students obtain pledges for this event and swim at Albany Community Pool. \nHalf of the proceeds raised (after expenses) in the iSwim for Kids event go directly back to the schools of the swimmers. The other half of the funds are distributed through our classroom grants program. DESCRIPTION:Happy Juneteenth! \nThe APSF office will be closed on Friday\, June 19th\, in observance of Juneteenth. \nJuneteenth (short for “June Nineteenth”) marks the day when federal troops arrived in Galveston\, Texas in 1865 to take control of the state and ensure that all enslaved people be freed. The troops’ arrival came a full two and a half years after the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation. Juneteenth honors the end to slavery in the United States and is considered the longest-running African American holiday.
